63 1/2 hours with Ghost of Yotei
A spectacular PlayStation 5 achievement that also hints at a simmering PlayStation problem.

The highest compliment I can give the recently released revenge epic Ghost of Yotei is that it was not ruined by my decision to immediately precede playing it by wrapping up its 2020 predecessor, Ghost of Tsushima.
In August, I realized I’d left Tsushima largely unfinished, despite greatly enjoying games from studio Sucker Punch Productions over the past 26 years.
Perhaps I was being a fool, but I decided it was time to see the old game through, the better to appreciate how the studio approached Ghost of Yotei, their October 2025 sequel.
There was more left to Tsushima than I’d realized. I’d put the game down years ago, after clearing its first major region. Returning in August, I was having too grand a time. I even played through its expansion.
50 hours of Tsushima catch-up later, I started playing my review copy of Yotei, risking complete Ghost-game exhaustion.
63 hours later, as credits rolled in Yotei, the comparison proved revelatory.
Ghost of Yotei is less a sequel than an excellent Tsushima remix.
Also: Its best new feature is…a telescope. I think I can prove it! And I have my own take on a problem creeping into Sony’s first-party games.
