Hooded Horse, the indie publisher behind the most wishlisted game on Steam, is an unusual company.
It’s not just that it was founded by a married couple who met in a class about ancient Chinese historical texts. It’s not just that they’re a publisher 100% dedicated to strategy games.
Hooded Horse is also a for-profit company that doesn’t have to put profits first. And that’s not a slogan or PR spin.
It’s in the company’s bylaws.
“Everyone says, ‘Oh, corporations are bound to always make more profit for shareholders,” Hood Horse co-founder Tim Bender recently told me.
“Yes,” he added, “Unless you put a line in.”
And, at Hooded Horse, they put a line in.
