Sony’s Game & Network Services, the division that is essentially PlayStation, had 12,100 employees as of March 31, 2025, down from 12,700 a year ago.

That is the first decline in the division’s official headcount since 2020, when Sony began publicizing the size of its video game workforce. The most recent figures were quietly updated on Sony’s investor site on June 3, but had not been previously reported.

The diminished headcount comes amid two years of very visible layoffs at one of the game industry’s most successful companies.

Given recent history, some industry observers may have anticipated a more dramatic decline.
