Sony kicks off PS Plus' 15th anniversary by chatting with Game File about the past, present and future of its gaming subscription service: Talking price, catalogue tweaks and where the PS3 games are.
Maybe it's the collector in me, but big new releases at no cost to members brings down the value of the property. Or at least reduces desirability -- if it's free, how good can it be.
Sad to see the PlayStation Stars rewards program go away next month. It's been a ton of fun and a great motivator. I'll refrain from using withering negativity to express that disappointment in the comments.
Really interesting news. I'm very curious though if anyone is studying whether or not all of the streaming services+remasters+back catalogs = declining sales for new games & declining spend overall?
That's the other thing, right? We've had "live service" games for over 20 years now - WoW, is one of the grand daddies, and a few are close to that old, but never so many, especially the ones of decent quality that are free-miums. So add those in as well. With all the demands that games make, there's an argument to be made, I'm sure, that those, and the playability of older games on current systems are a definite contributor, if not a direct drag, on current games/system profits and growth. Shoot, my backlog just from PS+games is near, if not over 300, if I go back to my PS3, which I still have, but never play. And not all those games are quality, but I'd argue at least 51%
I run from subscriptions like the plague but PS Plus Extra is simply too much value to pass on. I'm on like my 4th straight year and loving every bit.

Great question.
That, coupled with the reported fact that many players stick with older, "evergreen", games such as Minecraft and Fortnite could have an impact.
