SALE TIME! 20% off annual Game File subscriptions!
Wait, isn't everyone else raising prices right now?
Game File's second-ever summer sale is starting right now. If you've been on the verge of starting a paid subscription or were just about to renew, good news...
Between now and August 15, annual Game File subscriptions are 20% off. That's $80 a year, compared to the standard $100. If you break down the monthly cost, it comes out to less than $7 a month.

Why upgrade to a paid sub?
You get every Game File article in full, including all the original reporting I tuck behind the paywall in nearly every edition. No more missing out on two thirds of what I publish each week.
I've got plans! I can't tell you about all the stories I'm working on, but trust me, a paid sub will definitely pay off
Straight-up better journalism. Currently, Game File revenue is sustainable enough for me to work solo and to keep at it for a long time to come. But the money I'm taking in has reached an exciting level, because increases can finance more field reporting, and can also help me collaborate with more reporters on guest pieces, co-reported features and other journalism that is possible when there are additional people involved. Readers have seen some manifestations of that in recent months. More to come on that front, if the revenue keeps going up. (And, no, this doesn't mean I want to flood your inbox. I don't want you to pay me to get MORE newsletters; but to pay for better and better newsletter! I know, from 20 years of experience, that more reporting resources makes for better journalism. And that's the ultimate goal here.)
You'll also receive my unending gratitude. All I want to do professionally is report on the business and culture of video games. Readers who can afford to pay make that possible. Thank you in advance!
So, if you can, please sign up for a paid year of Game File. Your subscription will last beyond the release of GTA VI—if they don't delay it again. How crazy is that?

(NOTE: A common question I get from existing paid subscribers is whether there's a way to tack another year on at the sale rate. I really wish you could. You have helped me out so much! Sadly, my publishing platform, Substack, doesn't support this, though I've asked about it before. If you are an existing paid subscriber and are on the brink--let's face it, things are expensive these days--please send me a note. Your feedback can help me plead my case with Substack about offering long-term subscribers more benefits. And if you get any friends, colleagues or mortal enemies to sign up for the sale, let me know. Once confirmed, I can definitely grant you a referral bonus.)
Just a note, my automatic renewal today didn't give me the sale price. Substack AI said you can't get discounts on renewal, but can cancel and get a refund and start a new sub for discount. So I paid full price, then canceled, then re-subscribed to get discount.
Hi Stephen! I take it that substack still don’t allow conversions from monthly sub to annual sub during a sale?
