On Wednesday, I reported that the head of ZeniMax Online Studios, makers of The Elder Scrolls was departing the studio as part of Microsoft’s deep cuts into its gaming division.
How did I get that story? That’s what today’s behind-the-scenes video is about. You’ll hear a bit about the actual reporting…. where the info came from, how I got more details and wound up with an unexpected scoop. You’ll also hear about the realities of working as an independent reporter and a parent, where the work of breaking a story must live alongside the more important duties of picking up the kids from camp, making dinner, and so on. This saga includes a side quest: the hunt for a blue suit that I’d lost.
As I mention in the video, I can’t tell the behind-the-scenes story of every article I run. Some back-stories might be too boring, others too sensitive and secret. But occasionally there are some that I think Game File readers might get a kick out of. This is one of those. And I’m doing it via video.
