One of 2024’s coolest gaming secrets has been hiding in plain sight

It’s hard to keep a big secret in the video game industry, but the developers at Canadian game studio Digital Extremes just pulled it off by taking an unusually bold approach: acting like they had nothing to hide.
Seriously. Look at the image atop this story. It’s an official piece of marketing art for Jade Shadows, a new expansion to Digital Extremes’ hit live-service game Warframe.
Notice anything unusual?
The game’s players had seen it for weeks and did not.
Nor did players notice anything was amiss when the studio recently showed pre-launch gameplay footage of Jade Shadows’ new character/warframe (think of it as an optional exoskeleton for the player) in action.
Digital Extremes was hiding something. But no one seems to have guessed, so when Waframe players dove into Jade Shadows as it went live at 11am ET this past Tuesday, they encountered a big shock.
