This just seems weird to me. Aren't physical consoles typically not moneymakers for these companies? I have a hard time believing this will actually increase software sales long term and it just gates off content from more people, which is just worse for consumers... I understand a vocal minority (?) wants this but I'm my opinion this is backsliding.
I don't think Xbox offer anything appealing outside the competition. 95% could be replicated by a budget pc. A more optimal experience via a gaming pc. Streaming offers budget solutions and ps5 offers exclusive content. Why purchase an Xbox?
You'd be nuts to buy one brand new at the current retail price. You're also not wrong that if you could afford a PC with better specs than a Series X (not a given in today's market!) it would probably be a better choice.
But as a thought experiment:
VS PC, you get a streamlined and simplified experience, especially for couch co-op titles. It's a box that plays games and boots really fast and you never need to adjust graphics settings more complex than "performance" or "quality" and has universal compatibility with all the latest TV technologies. (Whereas Windows HDR is a *mess*.)
VS PS5, you get
* Game Pass
* Play Anywhere
* Backwards compatibility going back three generations
* Personally, I prefer the Xbox controller and UI
If you don't really care for third-person cinematic action adventure games then I don't think Sony's big exclusives this generation have been particularly earth-shattering. Spiderman, God of War, the Ghost games... I love them, but they're all variations on the same kind of game which might not be everyone's cup of tea.
(I own all three so don't have a dog in the fight!)
Yes, vs ps5 gamepass is for sure an advantage but I think that is realistically the only one. PS offers Nacon Revolution 5 Pro, psn plus premium etc. I think it's poor choice to pick a console over UI, not sure anyone would do that.
I think sony exclusives are all round much better. Not just 3rd party story games but also Astro bot, Returnal and Demons Souls offer something incredible.
Vs PC theres has been huge strides in streamlining.
With a lot of effort being made into streamllining pc performance, such as press to wake on a controllerand launch into steam big picture.
Again if I wanted a streamlined console experience, PS5 is the way to go (reflected by sales numbers). If I wanted the optimal, most powerful gaming experience, PC is the best. Still doesn't leave much room for xbox series...
I wonder if this strategy will work. It seems confusing that some games are exclusive, while others aren’t.

Oh good. Exclusives. Now children and man-children alike will have something to fight about in YouTube comments sections 🙄

You do you man! The whole debate is going to be pretty irrelevant anyway when Xbox and PC merge with Helix. 🤷♂️
